Strong Attendance, New Technology & Continued Demand for Structural Steel Tooling at NASCC 2026

The team at American Punch recently returned from NASCC: The Steel Conference at the Georgia World Congress Center, and while the show floor reflected a rapidly evolving steel fabrication industry, one thing remained clear: precision tooling still plays a critical role in fabrication productivity and long-term operational success.

This year’s event featured strong attendance and significant excitement across the structural steel industry. One of the biggest trends throughout the show was the continued growth and advancement of laser processing technology. Manufacturers from around the world showcased new laser systems designed to improve automation, increase throughput, and reduce labor requirements in fabrication shops.

At the same time, there was still strong interest in traditional punching, punching systems, and precision tooling solutions. Fabricators continue to rely on punches, dies, and shear blades for many applications because of their speed, repeatability, and cost efficiency—especially in high-volume structural steel environments.

The Growing Presence of Overseas Machines

Another major takeaway from NASCC 2026 was the increasing number of fabrication machines entering the market from overseas manufacturers. While many of these machines may offer attractive upfront pricing, tooling support and long-term operational costs remain an important consideration that many fabricators overlook during the purchasing process.

Many overseas machines require specialized tooling that may not be stocked in the United States, resulting in:

  • Longer lead times
  • Higher replacement tooling costs
  • Increased downtime waiting for parts
  • Limited technical support

When evaluating fabrication equipment, it’s important to consider more than just the machine price. Over the long haul, tooling availability and replacement costs can significantly impact productivity and profitability.

At American Punch, our team regularly helps fabricators identify tooling solutions for a wide range of machine brands and applications. Before investing in new equipment, we encourage manufacturers to speak with their tooling supplier to better understand tooling availability, replacement costs, and support options.

Supporting Structural Steel Fabricators with Precision Tooling

Throughout the show, the American Punch team discussed tooling solutions for leading structural steel fabrication equipment brands including:

  • Peddinghaus
  • Ficep
  • Voortman
  • Controlled Automation
  • Franklin Equipment
  • Sunrise
  • Trilogy
  • Geka

From punches and dies to shear blades and custom tooling, our focus remains on helping fabricators reduce downtime, improve precision, and maximize machine performance.

We appreciate everyone who stopped by Booth 1716 during the show and look forward to continuing the conversations started at NASCC 2026.
