FABTECH 2022 is a Major Success.

In FABTECH’s second full-blown show since the pandemic, the show did not disappoint and attendance seems to have been the strongest our team has ever seen. The FABTECH Expo is North America’s largest metal forming, fabricating, welding, and finishing event that provides a convenient ‘one-stop shop’ venue where you can meet with world-class suppliers, discover innovative solutions, and find the tools to improve productivity and increase profits. There is no better opportunity to network, share knowledge and explore the latest technology, all in one place.

Fabtech 2022

With continuing education sessions from the American Welding Society (AWS), Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International (FMA), Chemical Coaters Association International (CCAI), and more, the educational sessions were impressive. The educational sessions were segmented ranging from fabrication to processes and management to workforce development. The show offered something for everyone in attendance.

In addition to practical seminars, the conference also offered an extensive trade show. The show featured providers that are moving the needle in the metal fabrication industry as well as numerous networking opportunities. There were a few areas that stood out to our team from meetings on the show floor and networking events that we thought were important to share.

Metal Fabrication Industry Confidence is High

The robust attendance paired with the caliber of attendees this year is a great indication that the Fabrication Industry confidence appears to be at a high level right now which is a good sign as we head into 2023. Our team’s conversations with attendees point to their businesses performing at high levels with consistent volumes in orders and projects.

Skilled Labor Remains a Challenge for the Manufacturing Industry

While the production demand volume continues to grow, the manufacturing industry remains plagued, as do many industries, with a lack of skilled workers. Many attendees and exhibitors expressed concerns over the availability of skilled workers remains a top concern for almost everyone we have spoken with. It comes as no surprise as we have been experiencing the same since the COVID pandemic arrived.

This is also impacting employee retention at many manufacturing and metal fabrication companies. The companies that have seen the most success related to retaining employees, cross-training, and promoting from within to fill important roles.

Attendance at its Best Yet

With the show floor full this year, the sheer volume in attendance was refreshing and exciting to see. This year the caliber of attendees was also on the rise whether that was due to the educational opportunities, the industry-leading metal fabrication providers, or the comfort level of being back in person with large groups.

metal manufacturingOur team heard from attendees, manufacturers, and fabricators that it was a very successful show from machine sales happening throughout the show to the willingness to buy being present from customers. According to Matt Bendula, Vice President of Operations at American Punch, “We are confident the success at FABTECH this year converts to increasing sales and demand for tooling, machinery, and more across the manufacturing industry.”

As always the FABTECH Expo continues to be one of the leading metal forming, fabricating, welding, and finishing events of the year. Whether you attended FABTECH Expo or met with our team at the event it would be great to connect to hear how you felt the show went, what you learned, or even how we might be able to partner together to help advance your business in the metal fabrication industry.
